I search for evidence for enemy-free space and sequential radiation in gall midges and their parasitoid wasps on Suaeda asphaltica and Suaeda fruticosa plants in the Judean desert and the Dead Sea area. I look for differences in parasitism rates between the host-associated populations of the midges and for differences in the effect of endoparasitoids and ectoparasitoids on their survival rates. In greenhouse experiments I test for oviposition choice of the wasps and document differences in fitness between endo- and ectoparasitoids on the two host plants. I also use molecular tools to examine whether parasitoids from the two hosts differ genetically.
